A Gulf Breeze woman was arrested and charged with Battery and Obstructing Justice last Wednesday after she allegedly became aggravated over an issue regarding her husband’s medication and punched him in the face.
Sharon Fitzgerald, 32, was arrested and slapped with the two charges. She was released from Santa Rosa County a short time later after posting $500 bond.
Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a home last Wednesday in reference to an unknown 9-1-1 call.
Upon arrival, law enforcement officers spoke with the victim who claimed that his wife, Fitzgerald, had gotten into an argument with him earlier that day and that she allegedly punched him in the face.
The victim stated that he came home that day from the hospital and found his wife asleep in her bed while her two children played in their rooms.
The victim told law enforcement that after seeing she wasn’t adequately looking after the children, he threatened to call the Department of Children and Families. That’s when the victim stated Fitzgerald came at him with a closed fist and struck him in his nose and near his left eye three times, the report stated.
Officers noted that the victim has slight swelling on his nose and left eye that were consistent with his statement.
The victim stated he went to a home inside of the residence and attempted to call 9-1-1, but that Fitzgerald followed him into the room and “snatched the phone out of his hand and pushed him”, the report stated. The man said Fitzgerald took both her cell phone and the home phone with her and left the residence, according to the report.
Law enforcement officers later located Fitzgerald at her child’s doctor’s office. When questioned about what happened earlier that day, the suspect stated that her husband had confronted her and asked about his medication, which she told officers he abused, the report stated. She told officers that at one point, her husband got in her face and began to yell at her.
Based on the investigation and the swelling on the victim’s face, SRCSO deputies placed Fitzgerald under arrest and booked her into Santa Rosa County Jail.
Fitzgerald has no prior arrests in Santa Rosa County according to the Santa Rosa County Jail View website.
