Next month the Navarre Beach Sea Turtle Conservation Center will undergo a certification process, and if all goes well they will be able to house their first non-releasable sea turtle, which Center Director Cathy Holmes says will be a green turtle. She said the center will open soon after getting the turtle.
Pictured left is center volunteer Caroline Holtgrewe, a Navarre High School junior who helps with the center’s education exhibits and works in its gift shop.
Holtgrewe, holding a Diamond Terrapin nicknamed Pumpkin, said she loves the work because center volunteers are passionate about what they do.
“They just want to teach people,” she said.
Many of the center’s display focus on creating an awareness of the ways humans can protect turtles.
