Kira is ready for her fur-ever home!
Santa Rosa County Animal Services is offering a special feline adoption event now through Sat., Feb. 23. All cats are available for adoption at no cost and are spayed or neutered, microchipped and vaccinated.

The shelter is offering the special following a two-week suspension of cat adoptions due to the virus, feline panleukopenia (FP). Feline intake is still suspended until further notice. The shelter is implementing new protocols to minimize the risk of contagious diseases. Cats and kittens are vaccinated on intake but not fully protected until they have received a booster.

“As part of the adoption process at the shelter, all new pet owners are instructed take their adopted animal to a vet as soon as possible for an examination and to keep their new pet separate from any other household pets for two weeks,” said Dr. Megan Arevalo, shelter veterinarian. “All the cats we are adopting out have been vaccinated and we encourage all pet owners to maintain proper and timely vaccinations as a best defense against community diseases.”

The shelter is open for adoptions Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 4451 Pine Forest Road in Milton. Adoptable pets, as well as lost and stray animals, can also be viewed online at www.santarosa.fl.gov/animals. For more information, contact Santa Rosa County Animal Services, 850-983-4680.
