Two brothers were slapped with burglary charges after their own father identified them on video surveillance footage stealing items from a vehicle at the Navarre Walmart and saw them on the video attempting to steal the same car they were burglarizing.
According to the arrest report, both John Abegg, 28, and his brother Dennis Abegg, 26, were ultimately slapped with Property Damage, Burglary and Vehicle Theft charges following the incident and booked into Santa Rosa County Jail.
The alleged incident took place at the Walmart parking lot back on April 6.
A Walmart employee went out to his vehicle and noticed he had several items missing from the car and that the inside of his vehicle had been damaged.
After consulting with the store’s Loss Prevention team, another employee was able to pull up surveillance video of the parking lot, that showed two men entering the victim’s car and taking items from it.
The two men were seen entering the vehicle around 4:30 p.m. Several things were taken from the vehicle including a wallet, the victim’s backpack, keys and other miscellaneous items.
The suspects also made an attempt to steal the vehicle, but were unable to do so, the report indicated. The suspects attempted to hardwire the car to take off with it, but video showed they were unsuccessful.
Eventually, the two men were ID’d by their own father who went to the store and watched the video.
The duo was arrested back on April 15 and later released after posting $10,500 bond each.
