Connecting the proposed Florosa Collector Road with a future Navarre Community Access Road to create a U.S. 98 “bypass” still has “significant” hurdles yet to overcome, according to local leaders.
After years of discussions, local military leaders are finally open to exploring “any and all options” for an alternative route for U.S. 98 from Hurlburt to Navarre, citing traffic woes.
Santa Rosa County District 5 Commissioner Colten Wright, who on June 12 completed a year-long volunteer engagement as an Honorary Commander for 1st Special Operations Wing at Hurlburt Field, says a U.S. 98 alternate route or “bypass” has been in the works for years.

Wright said connecting the proposed Florosa Collector Road with the future Navarre Community Access would is the “quickest and most likely solution.”
Former Santa Rosa County District 4 Commissioner Dave Piech, Colonel, USAF Retired, who attended a July 1 Navarre Chamber Military Affairs Committee meeting, expressed optimism but says there are still “significant hurdles yet to be overcome.”
“It’s encouraging that Eglin is willing to talk,” Piech said, adding, “This by no means is going to be a quick solution. There’s a lot of legwork on everybody’s part, but there is positive movement.”
