We could have had an incredible representative for Florida House District 3. Instead, because powers that be in Tallahassee coerced an ideal Republican candidate not to run, we’re likely stuck with Joel Rudman, who makes disastrous, petty and vengeful knee-jerk reactions and works hard to promote liberal agendas, like expanding Medicaid in Florida and supporting Navarre’s incorporation.
Rudman is more showman than statesman. He tries to placate local community agitators and seems more worried about his wannabe rock career than serving his constituents. He teams up with Democrats and goes on talk shows in South Florida, promoting the expansion of Obamacare for childless adults – amongst other things.
Additionally, Rudman has blocked those who question him or voice oppose to incorporation from a Facebook page he uses to share or discuss issues related to his job as State Representative. He’s even blocked fellow legislators from contacting him. How juvenile.
That’s why I did what would normally be the unthinkable yesterday. I voted for Rudman’s challenger, a registered Democrat.
Friends were shocked and said I wasted a vote. They’re right that Rudman will likely win. But it was more of a gesture, lifting up my middle finger to those who didn’t think we deserved a more authenthic Republican candidate and one who behaves in a respectable manner, not wearing black fingernail polish on the floor of the House.
For those of you who are also a bit rebellious or those of you open to considering a candidate in a party you don’t support, Keith Gillum is Joel’s sole challenger.

“I am a RIGHT Dem who opposes extremism on both sides of the aisle. I find the idea of “defunding the police” ridiculous and the 2nd amendment to be clear-cut. While I may be pro-weed, Rudman is pro-greed.
I know firsthand how the cost of living is choking us out. Insurance premiums and utility bills must come down. Rudman spends a lot of time focusing on Medicaid. We wouldn’t need to expand Medicaid in Florida if we could make other costs of living affordable. Him and his ilk have really stuck it to us in the Panhandle. Utility rates have increased almost 40% this year. Like me, you probably know people who may be forced to sell their homes or shutter their businesses because of insane insurance premiums. You never hear Rudman talk about these issues because he is part of the gang who orchestrated it. Instead, he brags about how he’s a doctor and that he passed a gun bill. Great. This leads us to the whole incorporate Navarre debate.
I am NO on INC. Incorporation will undoubtedly lead to higher taxes. Incorporation is part of a ploy to squeeze out longtime residents so big corporations and out-of-staters can gobble up properties. Preserve Navarre even admits on their website that a legitimate concern after incorporating is tax increases and politicians that don’t care about you. No thanks. This is more bureaucracy we don’t yet need. Besides, we already have a representative who doesn’t care about us. He claims to be a rebel but he’s no different from the rest. His eyeliner and mascara isn’t fooling anyone.
Voters in District 3 deserve a better option – not an out-of-touch doctor, but a straight shooter. It’s time for a change. If we elect Rudman again, the prognosis doesn’t look good. We need a better treatment plan, and I believe I am just what the doctor ordered.”

So when it’s time for you to mark your ballot, why not consider figuratively returning the bird to Rudman and Tally by voting for Gillum? It’s true that Rudman is most likely to win in a county like Santa Rosa, which has a supermajority of Republican voters. But maybe he won’t win by a Gaetz-level margin.
For what it’s worth, I also voted yes on Amendment 3. But no on 4.
