Santa Rosa County Comissioners tomorrow will discuss three bids for the acquisition of the former County Courthouse, ranging from $0 to $1.114 million.

Local historians have praised a proposal submitted Jan. 5 by Bayou District Consulting, which noted its experience with restoration projects and offered $1.114 million for the historic structure and three adjoining vacant parcels. That proposal includes plans to preseve the circa 1927 core of the existing structure while adding back a third floor and creating a rooftop restaurant. The proposal also includes plans to reopen Oak Street, add parking and provide mixed-use development along Elmira Street.

A second offer of $100,000 was submitted Dec. 30 by Pars Co, LLC, which also has restoration experience. Like the Bayou District Consulting proposal, their bid includes preserving the circa 1927 core and constructing a mixed-use development.

A third offer from Diversity Program Advisors offers no money but plans to cover the cost of demolishing the former Courthouse, a proposal strongly opposed by historic downtown advocates.

Commissioners could vote on Thursday to decide how to select the winning bid.

EDITOR’S NOTE: The City of Milton had previously requested to purchase the three vacant parcels adjacent to the former courthouse for $1; however, the council decided to withdraw that request.
