EXONERATED: Charge Dismissed Against East Milton Little League Coach

Posted on December 3, 2025 by Romi White

Santa Rosa County Judge Robert Hilliard on Monday granted a motion to dismiss a charge against Jerry Land, a longtime volunteer little league coach, who says he will never coach again after Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office sought his arrest, following an April 2025 argument with an umpire at a Pace ballpark which escalated into rumors of an “active shooter” situation.

East Milton resident Jerry Land, a father and grandfather, has been coaching little league for decades.

According to an interview with WEAR ABC 3, Land was unable to sleep or eat after the arrest and his self-esteem was “gone.” He called the accusation a “pure lie” and seeks an apology from the community and SRSO. WATCH CH. 3 STORY

SRSO on May 14, 2025, used its agency’s official social media account to speak out on the case, stating:

“The Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office arrested Jerry Lee Land, 63, on May 14, 2025, in connection with the April 24, 2025, incident at the Pace Athletic Recreation Association (PARA). Land turned himself in and was taken into custody on an active misdemeanor warrant for Disorderly Conduct. Bond was issued in accordance with the warrant guidelines. We remain committed to maintaining a safe environment for all residents and visitors in Santa Rosa County.”
Land’s attorney, Barry Beroset, submitted video evidence, stating in court documents that “other challenging the call there is no brawling, fightin or engaging in conduct that constitutes a breach of peace or disorderly conduct.”

Beroset referenced bodycam footage from SRSO Deputies Randy Dahl and Josh Hargitt, noting that during a related interview the umpire stated he was not in fear that Land would get a gun.

Land departed the ballpark after the argument with the umpire and did not return.
