Commissioners to discuss proposed road resurfacing projects

Santa Rosa County Commissioners during their November 12 meeting are expected to discuss the following proposed road resurfacing projects.

The approved 2019-2020 fiscal year budget includes $1,600,000 in the Road and Bridge budget for the resurfacing of Primary Roads within the county. The roadway segments listed below, per county staff, are deemed the most imperative to receive resurfacing this fiscal year:

• $880,025 Munson Highway (Stewart Street to East Gate Road)
• $616,050 Greenwood Road (Highway 4 south 13,000 feet – will include widening, and the remainder will be resurfaced in future years)
• $96,125 Chumuckla Highway (south of Joppa Road to north of Willard Norris Road – aimed to rehabilitate what county staff describe as the “worst” segment of the road)

Additionally, the board will discuss specific resurfacing projects proposed for two county districts — District 3 (North Santa Rosa) and District 5 (Gulf Breeze).

District 3 receives $465,000 of the county’s $1,500,000 gas tax revenues based on the distribution formula established by the Board. The following projects are under consideration for District 3:

• $18,000 Oakwood Drive
• $14,000 Robinhood Road
• $100,900 Old Martin Road
• $27,300 Edna Lane
• $24,000 Audubon Drive
• $14,000 Fox Fire Road
• $26,300 James Hendrix Road
• $13,500 Foxwood Road
• $15,800 Mitchell Road
• $13,800 Roger Hardy Road
• $8,300 Booker Road
• $8,700 Chess Bass Road
• $8,000 Elmwood Lane
• $13,900 Birdie Lane
• $13,900 Bogey Lane
• $37,000 Pitnic Road
• $68,100 James Jernigan Road
• $7,700 Birchwood Lane

District 5 receives $210,000 of the $1,500,000 based on the distribution formula established by the Board. The following projects are under consideration for District 5:

• $3,500 Duke Drive (east of College)
• $7,860 Duke Drive (College Parkway to 3209)
• $1,400 Whisper Lake Drive
• $3,950 El Portal Street
• $5,360 Stanford Drive (south of Duke Drive)
• $5,830 McDonald Court
• $4,900 Patricia Court
• $7,470 Janice Court
• $5,380 Phyllis Court
• $5,660 Scott Court
• $16,300 Bay Point Drive
• $4,870 Bay Heather Drive
• $4,660 Kevin Court
• $5,665 Bonita Avenue
• $4,235 Brookwood Drive
• $6,525 Brookwood Circle
• $9,745 Kelly Lane
• $16,515 Central Parkway
• $11,065 Sandy Ridge Road
• $11,415 Bayshore Terrace
• $2,525 Breezy Wind Drive
• $18,135 Southwind Drive (Redfish Point to the curve)
• $28,265 Pine Street

Additionally, this year’s budget allocates a total of $200,000 in LOST revenues to each commissioner’s district for road paving/resurfacing projects.

The suggested list for District 3 includes the following:

• $30,000 for Ebenezer Church Rd. (2,550 feet)
• $22,400 for School Rd. (1900 feet)
• $146,600 for Dykestown Rd. (9,900 feet).

The suggested list for District 5 includes:

• $41,000 Hickory Shores Boulevard (700 feet – New Hope Road to “S” curve)
• $38,750 Paradise Bay Drive (3,325 feet)
• $35,000 Government Drive (3,050 feet)
• $42,950 North Shores Drive (3,380 feet)
• $6,350 College Parkway (500 feet)
• $13,800 New Hope Road (1440 feet – north of Highway 98)
• $21,100 Wheeler Road (2,040 feet)

The project lists are expected to be approved during the board’s November 14 regular meeting.
