Cops arrest student for bomb threat at Jay High School

A School Resource Officer at Jay High School around 1 p.m. was notified by school staff of a bomb threat. Several additional deputies responded to the school to assist. The school was evacuated by school administration. Adjacent, Jay Elementary School was also evacuated as a precaution.

A text message was received by another student in which the sender advised of a bomb threat to the school. After a thorough investigation and within 30 minutes, a suspect was in custody.

The threat was unfounded and the individual who sent the text was discovered to be a student who was supposedly playing a joke.

The suspect is a juvenile. He was taken to the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office and booked on the following charges:

  • Making a False Bomb Threat, FSS790.164.1. FELONY
  • Disruption of a School Function, FSS877.13 MISDEMEANOR
