Hide not your talents. They for use were made. What’s a sundial in the shade?
– Benjamin Franklin
How many of you remember Paul Harvey’s “The Rest of the Story”? I would make sure I was in the car at noon because I looked forward to getting details. The truth was, I thought I was well versed in many of his topics, only to find out there was a piece of information that I did not have access to. Information that changed the way I looked at that person/city/item.
This coming month your Chamber of Commerce will start the nominating process for the board. The seventeen individuals you have selected will attend board meetings, committee meetings, county meetings, events and retreats. They get up early and they stay late working the Fun Fest, Thursdays in the Park, attending the monthly Commerce & Coffee, 1730 afterhours and ribbon cuttings. They will be asked to sign a confidentiality statement and take on a fiduciary responsibility to the membership and are asked to make decisions that aren’t always popular.
The Board will direct the President/CEO and staff on how to implement their decisions. If I have ever implied that those decisions were not difficult or that the efforts by those in the past were not substantial, I apologize. Your board, the President/CEO and staff are a team working to meet the objectives of the Chamber and its membership.
We have great members and we need your voice. We need great leaders on our board representing our community. Please take the time and think about someone you know that will make a strong leader, one that will put the greater needs of our community over their own. Maybe it is you. Please fill out your nomination form and if you need another one please reach out to me and I will see that you have one. We would love for you to be a part of the rest of our story.
