The freshman Gulf Breeze High School football team was the first set of Dolphins to make their appearance at last Friday’s Jamboree against Fort Walton Beach High School.
The team had 12 minutes to prove to the crowd gathered inside the stadium what they had learned during the summer months as they trained for the 2016 season.
The freshman team ultimately sized up the Viking freshman, outscoring them 6-0 in the 12-minute session.
The Dolphins started off the quarter on their own 30-yard line and eventually were able to make their way into Viking territory. But heavy Fort Walton defense forced the Dolphins to turn the ball over at the Viking 34-yard line.
After receiving the ball after the turnover, the Vikings fumbled the ball, but recovered it at the line of scrimmage.
But the turnover didn’t last long after the Vikings saw themselves facing a fourth and 8 and turned the ball back over to the Dolphins.
With the clock ticking down past the one-minute mark, the Dolphins pushed their way through Viking territory only to end up at the Viking 3-yard line.
With not much room to work with, Freshman QB Eli Ryan, tossed the ball off to Steven Guess, who ran the ball through a heavy pack of Viking defense for the first and only touchdown for the freshman team with only 35 second left on the clock.
Fort Walton was unable to come back after the touchdown, and the game ended with the Dolphins squeezing by the Vikings 6-0.
