Last night Don Gaetz (R-Crestview) was elected to the State Senate in a landslide victory, earning over 64% of the vote. Gaetz released the following statement on his victory:

“I want to thank you our volunteers, supporters, and donors for your tireless work on this campaign. And most importantly, thank you to the voters of Northwest Florida for the incredible honor of being elected to serve you once again in the State Senate.

“I would also like to thank Senator Doug Broxson for his tireless and effective advocacy of our region’s interests and values. He has been a true champion for Northwest Florida.

“The Florida we love has become unaffordable for too many of our residents. That’s why my focus will be to lower the cost of living for our families and seniors – I’ll work to hold insurance companies accountable, make housing more affordable, and bring down the cost of our utility bills. I won’t rest until we have made Florida affordable again.”

Florida Senate District 1 includes Escambia, Santa Rosa, and portions of Okaloosa Counties.

Don Gaetz served in the Florida Senate from 2006 – 2016, including as Senate President from 2012 – 2014. Gaetz recently concluded five years as Chairman of Triumph Gulf Coast where he presided over $300 million in grants to support job creation, career technical education and economic development in Northwest Florida.  Don is former Superintendent of Okaloosa Schools and a long-time business owner in Northwest Florida.  He co-founded VITAS Healthcare Corporation, the nation’s largest and leading provider of hospice care. Don and his wife, Vicky, have two adult children – Erin, a digital media producer and Matt, United States Congressman for Northwest Florida.
