Dorian strengthens, takes aim at East Coast

The National Hurricane Center's 5 a.m. AST update shows Dorian is strengthening with current maximum sustained winds of 60 miles per hour.

Per NHC, Dorian is expected to turn west-northwestward and approach the southeast U.S. coast this weekend.  

The threat of tropical storm or hurricane conditions, along with storm surge, in the northwestern Bahamas and along portions of the Florida east coast have increased. Residents in these areas should monitor the progress of Dorian and ensure that they have their hurricane plan in place, stated the update.
