Driver Claims Heroin is Just a Chocolate Laxative

A traffic stop Saturday led to the discovery of 26 grams of heroin and oxycodone. The driver told Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office deputies the heroin was a chocolate laxative and he believed the pills to be fake. Neither was the case, according to OCSO.

Deputies charged 29-year-old Steven Coplen of Crestview with trafficking in heroin, possession of oxycodone, possession of drug paraphernalia and a traffic violation.

Coplen was stopped on Hurlburt Road near Fort Walton Beach when a deputy noticed he had an expired car registration. Coplen was also found to have an expired driver’s license for non-payment of car insurance.

After an OCSO K-9 alerted on Coplen’s truck, deputies found the heroin under the driver’s seat, more heroin on the passenger floorboard, oxycodone, and a plastic bag with methamphetamine residue, a scale and assorted paraphernalia consistent with narcotics use and distribution.
