After the close of business April 21, an employee of the Santa Rosa County Tax Collector’s office accidentally discharged his concealed firearm while at his desk.

According to Santa Rosa County Tax Collector Stan Colie Nichols, there were no injuries as a result of the accident, which he said is the first incident of its kind at the Santa Rosa County Administrative Complex, located in Milton.

“The employee has been placed on unpaid suspension pending an investigation by the Milton Police Department,” Nichols said, pointing out the employee holds a current concealed weapons permit.

Editor’s note: An earlier version of this story omitted the word “no” from Nichols’ quote. We deeply regret the error.
