The wait is almost over. Senator Greg Evers (REP) is scheduled to make an announcement regarding which elected office he will seek at 10:30 a.m. tomorrow near the Veteran’s Memorial Plaza at Riverwalk Park in downtown Milton.
Although Evers hasn’t officially announced his intent, a Greg Evers for Congress Committee has registered with the federal election commission for the House District 1 Congressional seat longtime Congressman Jeff Miller is vacating. The committee’s treasurer is John David Elliott, a Milton accountant.
If Evers indeed signs up for the race, he will face Florida Representative Matt Gaetz (REP) and Republicans Cris Dosev, Brian Frazier, John Mills, and Mark Wichern. Democratic candidates for the office include Amanda Leigh Kondrat’yev and Steven Specht. Elizabeth Anne Schrey is also registered to run for the office as NPA.
The announcement will end months of speculation about Evers’ next move. His name has been mentioned in several races, including the 2016 Santa Rosa County Sheriff and 2018 Florida Commissioner of Agriculture races.
Florida House District 3 Representative Doug Broxson and Florida House District 2 Representative Mike Hill have expressed an intent to seek Evers’ Senate seat should he seek another office.
Currently Santa Rosa County Commissioner District 1 Commissioner Jayer Williamson is signed up to run for the House District 3 seat Broxson currently holds and Frank White has filed to run for Florida House District 2.
Although Florida House District 1 Representative Clay Ingram initially expressed interest in seeking Evers’ Senate seat, he recently announcement he would not pursue it.
