Former Mayor of Milton Guy Thompson today in federal court pleaded guilty to 20 counts of wire fraud and three counts of tax evasion.
Thompson was removed as Executive Director of United Way of Santa Rosa County last fall.
Following an investigation into financial irregularities by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, today he entered the plea deal.
Additionally, United Way of Santa Rosa County subsequently lost its charter and was closed. United Way of Escambia County will now serve both counties.
He will remain on probation until his July 29 sentencing and faces a $250,000 fine per felony charge plus 20 years in prison per wire fraud count and five years in prison per tax evasion count.
