Four candidates have pre-filed for the Santa Rosa County District 2 County Commission seat, which is held by Bob Cole, who has said he doesn’t intend to seek re-election.

So far all the candidates are registered Republicans, according to the Santa Rosa County Supervisor of Elections website.

Jeff Ates IV leads in campaign contribution with $34,626 reported. Howard Steele has collected $8,500 and Rickie Cotton Jr. has $5,325. Kerry Smith recently entered and so far has reported $0 contributions.

The District 4 commission seat is also up for grabs during the 2022 election cycle. Current District 4 Commissioner Dave Piech has not yet filed to seek re-election. Presently Ray Eddington, a Republican who lives in Holley, has pre-filed for that seat.

The Republican nominees will be selected during the August 23 primary. If any candidates from other parties enter the race, the winning nominee will face off against them in the November 8 General Election.
