Both the Gulf Breeze boys and girls lacrosse teams were aiming for double digit scores last Thursday night. The girls’ lacrosse team walked away with a 10-1 victory over West Florida, and the boys followed up after the girls’ game with a 12-2 victory over the Jaguars varsity team.
In the first quarter, TJ Durst put the first point on the board for the Dolphins with less than 7 minutes left in the quarter. Forty five seconds later, Durst followed up with another goal making the score 2-0.
West Florida wasn’t giving up early in the game. After the goal by Durst, West Florida’s Jason Ogle scored a goal with 5 minutes left in the quarter. The goal put the Jaguars as close to the Dolphins as they’d get all night.
Following the Jaguar goal, Dolphin Noah Hass scored an easy shot on a completely wide open goal with 4:29 left in the quarter, ending the period with the Dolphins leading 3-1.
Both teams seemed to have run out of steam in the second quarter. The only goal made in the second part of the half was by Dolphin Carter Couget with 9:34 left in the half. The half ended with the Dolphins leading 4-1.
In the third, the Dolphins came kicking and screaming putting a total of 3 goals on the board. The first was by Gulf Breeze’s Hass who followed up on an assist making the score 5-1.
Three minutes later, Dolphin Nick Daly scored with an assist by Durst with 2:23 left on the clock. With less than one minute left in the third, Hass threw a low shot into the net finishing out the third 7-1.
West Florida made an effort to get more points on the board with the first goal in the final quarter made by Jacob Knight.
But the momentum only carried them so far after the Dolphins scored a total of 5 points in the fourth to finish out the game.
The first of those five came from Clark Couget with an assist from Durst with 8:44 left in the quarter. Following that Durst scored two back-to-back goals pushing the Dolphins up 10-2 over the Jaguars.
Dolphin Jake Molina scored with an assist by Nick Fraiser with 2:17 left in the game. That goal was followed up a minute later by a goal from Dolphin Charlie Smith finishing out the game 12-2.
