Volunteers helping Kiwanis Club of Big Lagoon Foundation on December 17, 2022 will place wreaths at Barrancas National Cemetery at NAS Pensacola as part of Wreaths Across America.
Last year the local effort included around 23,500 wreaths – the most to date. However, the effort still falls short of placing wreaths at all of the more than 47,000 graves in the cemetery.
Subsequently, the group is asking the community to help by sponsoring and placing wreaths.
Wreath sponsorships are $15 each. Family sponsors (5 wreaths) $75; Bronze (10 wreaths) $150; Silver (50 wreaths) $750; Gold (100 wreaths) $1,500; Platinum (200 wreaths) $3,000 and Diamond (500 wreaths) $7,500.
Sponsors can place the wreaths or request placement. More than 1,900 specific grave requests were honored last year, but the majority are used for mass placement in the new and old sections of the cemetery, aiming to cover as many as possible.
