Gulf Breeze beats clock, Pace

After weather delayed the Gulf Breeze and Pace game for nearly a week, Gulf Breeze hosted Pace on Monday and beat the Patriots 24-23 thanks to a last second field goal.

Gulf Breeze (3-6) was originally scheduled to play Pace (3-6) on October 18, but multiple delays caused the game to be played on October 28 instead.

Senior kicker Blaine Crook knocked in a 36 yard field goal as time expired to give the Dolphins their win, but Gulf Breeze had to play well on all sides of the ball to secure a win over Pace.

Gulf Breeze’s special teams did almost all of the work on their last drive, as senior running back Leonard Brown returned a kickoff inside Pace’s 20 yard line. Gulf Breeze was able to kill most of the clock at that point and then kick the game winning field goal.

Senior defensive back and receiver Devon Baldwin also came down with two interceptions for the Dolphins, while junior quarterback Ryland McCurdy had one rushing touchdown and senior running back TJ Nelson ran for two touchdowns.

Gulf Breeze will cap off the regular season by hosting Pine Forest this Friday, just a few days after the Dolphins victory over Pace.

Pine Forest is coming off of a 44-0 blowout of Arnold last week.

Last season’s contest between Pine Forest and Gulf Breeze saw Pine Forest take home a 27-14 win. Despite the score, it was a tightly contested game that Pine Forest won thanks to stout fourth down and red zone defense.

This year’s game between Pine Forest and Gulf Breeze is scheduled to kickoff (11/1) in Gulf Breeze at 7 p.m.
