A Gulf Breeze man was charged with child neglect after he allegedly slapped one of his children across the face after she screamed during a scary movie.
Michael Campbell, 31, of Green Briar Parkway was arrested after the alleged incident and charged with Cruelty Towards a Child and booked into Santa Rosa County Jail.
According to the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office arrest report, the mother of the child called 9-1-1 last Saturday after she claimed she returned from grocery shopping and was informed by one of her children that Campbell smacked one of his children across the face with an open hand.
The woman had been dating Campbell for three years, the report indicated, and the two lived together.
She claimed that she left Campbell in charge of his/her children while she went grocery shopping that day. The report indicated that when she saw the mark on the child’s face after returning from the store, she called 9-1-1.
Two other people inside of the residence saw the incident and reported that Campbell smacked the child across the face and told the girl to go to her room.
When deputies arrived, Campbell had locked himself inside one of the residence’s bathrooms. The report indicated that Campbell thought the responding deputy was his probation officer.
When the deputy examined the girl’s face he noticed a red mark on the child’s face that was consistent with a slap to the face.
Campbell denied hitting the girl and claimed he was asleep.
After Campbell was booked into Santa Rosa County Jail, a hold was placed on him.
He remains behind bars with a $7,500 bond.
Carter was arrested earlier this year for an out-of-county warrant according to the Santa Rosa County Jail View website.
