A spouse employment workshop recently took place at Eglin’s Airman and Family Readiness Center.
The workshop provided military spouses with employment and educational resources they can use to make informed decisions in a job pursuit, according to Carla Tyson, A&FRC community program manager.
Spouses were also shown ways to further an established career or continue an education, she added.
Base agency representatives provided information in their respective areas.
The attendees learned how to tailor resumes to specific jobs and new ways to show spouse preference to employers.
Spouses can apply for civil service, AAFES, private sector and non-appropriated funded jobs, to name a few.
Orlando Jackson, husband of Staff Sgt. Tiffany Gadson, 592nd Special Operations Maintenance Squadron, and their family recently transferred here from Sheppard Air Force Base, Texas. He is looking for an entry-level office job.
“I’ve learned quite a bit about applying for government jobs,” Jackson said. “I think any spouse seeking employment should attend this workshop.”
Tyson hopes more military spouses will attend future workshops.
“We want our spouses to follow their career goals,” she said. “Many times, spouses don’t know about the job opportunities available to them. This workshop is a good place to learn.”
