
Current District 2 Commissioner Kerry Smith failed to get petitions signed by the deadline; therefore, he must pay $5,460.06 by June 12 in order to stay on the ballot.
Five other D2 candidates successfully gathered and submitted signed petitions:

Jeff Ates, who entered the race 4-4-2025 and so far reported $7,675 in campaign funds;

Renee Johnmeyer, who entered the race 2-20-2026 and so far reported $3,670 in campaign funds;

Erin Nisewonger, who entered the race 3-25-2026 and so far reported $998.50 in self loans in campaign funds;

Ronald Pittman, who entered the race 2-26-2026 and so far reported $2,300 in self loans in campaign funds;

Jeff Snow, who entered the race 10-6-2025 and so far reported $15,595.47 in campaign funds.
Two other candidates also failed to get petitions signed and submitted before the deadline:

Shawn Kay, who entered the race 5-5-2026 and so far reported $0 in campaign funds.

Michael Rinaldi, who entered the race 4-9-2026 and so far reported $0 in campaign funds.
Therefore, Kay and Rinaldi, like Smith, must officially withdraw from the race or pay the $5,460.06 qualifying fee by 12 noon on June 12 to qualify.
According to the Supervisor of Elections office, Rinaldi has submitted a letter with his intention to withdraw but did not sign it; therefore he was asked to resubmit it with a signature.
Smith has reported raising $8,300 in campaign funds so far.
The next campaign financials are due June 10, covering April and May contributions.
