Current Santa Rosa County District 2 Commissioner Kerry Smith, whose term expires this year, was passed over May 13 for Chairman of The Florida-Alabama Transportation Planning Organization (TPO), which prioritizes regional transportation projects.

Smith had been serving as TPO vice chairman and was expected to be named Chairman, considering that historically the vice chairman is named Chairman. However, that did not happen, and it was two Santa Rosa County officials who made motion to keep Escambia County Commissioner Steven Barry as TPO chairman.

Milton Mayor Heather Lindsay made the motion, which was seconded by Santa Rosa County District 1 Commissioner Bobby Burkett then approved by the TPO board.
