Local Repeat Offender to Spend Life in Prison for Violent Sexual Battery

State Attorney Ginger Bowden Madden announces that on July 16, 2021, Demetrius Rashad Mason was convicted by a jury in Santa Rosa County, Florida of Sexual Battery (Force Likely to Cause Serious Personal Injury) and Domestic Battery by Strangulation.

On April 19, 2019, the Defendant broke into the victim’s home, physically attacked her, strangled, and sexually battered her.

The Defendant has an extensive criminal history including multiple convictions for violent crimes. The Defendant qualifies as a Prison Releasee Reoffender, which requires a mandatory life sentence. His sentencing hearing is scheduled for October 1, 2021.

Consistent with the position of The Office of the State Attorney, prosecuting attorney, Kari L. Garrett stated, “Crimes of domestic violence and sexual battery will be investigated and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
