For the second year in a row, the first year cadets of Navarre High School finished first, beating out five other teams from Area 8. The cadets were commanded by Cadet Sarah Brown. “I could not be prouder of you,” said Cadet Commander Samantha Combs, “You have worked hard since school started and you are reaping the benefits of hard work and dedication to your teams.” Cadet Brown commanded her drill team to first place in Unarmed Basic Drill, Physical Fitness, Academics and third place in Personnel Inspection. “Most of these cadets were in the 8th grade this time last year and to excel like they did on Saturday was amazing,” said Master Chief Ethridge, the unit’s Naval Science Instructor. In addition to their team efforts, several cadets received individual awards. Cadet Haden Bennett finished 1st place overall in sit-ups and the Navarre males dominated the sit-up competition with Cadet Ezekial Rohan taking first, cadet Tyler Richardson second and cadet Kyler Kensey in third. Cadet Kensey also finished third in push-ups. Cadet Zach St. Amant placed first overall on the Academic test. “It was great to see the team effort come together and then watch the individuals dominate as well. It was a great day,” said Combs.
