Dean Allen Matthews, 36, was booked April 8 into Santa Rosa County Jail on a felony sexual assault charge after contacting Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office to file a harassment complaint against a woman posting about him on social media.

However, Matthews had an active warrant for his arrest, and an investigator booked him into Santa Rosa County Jail where he’s currently being held without bond.

According to Santa Rosa County Sheriff Bob Johnson, DNA evidence from a January incident tied Matthews to the assault.

It’s not the first time Matthews has been arrested on a rape charge.

The suspect was arrested twice before for sexual assault. But both times prosecutors dropped or abandoned the case.

Matthews was arrested January 3, 2014 on a felony charge of sexual battery by an adult 24 years or older with a victim 16 or 17 years of age. The case was dropped October 18, 2017.

He was also arrested May 18, 2017, again for a felony charge of sexual battery by an adult 24 years or older with a victim 16 or 17 years of age.   That case was abandoned June 16, 2017.

Additionally, previous arrests for Matthews include: April 4, 2012 for battery, October 5, 2013 for contempt of court, and September 24, 2016 for domestic battery, felony probation violation, kidnapping-false imprisonment and criminal mischief – property damage. The latter case was dropped.
