Milton City Clerk’s Contract Nearly Terminated

During a special meeting tonight Councilman Jeff Snow made a motion to terminate the contract of appointed Milton City Clerk Dawn Molinero. The vote ended in a tie, which enable the Mayor to break the tie in opposition, saving Molinero’s job.

Councilman Casey Powell had seconded Snow’s motion, which was supported by Councilwoman Roxanne Meiss and Councilman Matt Jarrett.

Four other council members opposed the motion, including Mike Cusack, Marilynn Farrow Gavin Hawthorne and Jason Vance. Subsequently, Mayor Heather Lindsay, who only gets to vote in the event of a tie, opposed the motion.

During the meeting, Council members and the City Manager discussed multiple concerns over Molinero’s recent actions during the attempted hiring of a new city manager.

Current City Manager Randy Jorgenson said there is “tension” amongst staff at City Hall, involving Molinero, and reported she had retrieved two computers, including his computer, without his consent and while he was not present. He said she incorrectly asserted that she was in charge in his absence. But Jorgenson said the designated administrator in his absence is Tony Tindell.

Councilwoman Roxanne Meiss read aloud an email from Molinero to Scott Collins, who was the top candidate to replace Jorgenson. In that email Molinero made negative comments about the city, including comments about fellow staff members.

The next city council meeting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, August 8 at City Hall, located at 6738 Dixon Street in Milton.
