Park County Sheriff’s Office has released information about a July 4 shootout, identifying the suspect as 28-year-old Samson Fussner of Milton, Florida. Fussner was shot and killed while making threats during an altercation with Yellowstone National Park rangers.
Fussner was reported to be armed and dangerous before the shootout, which took place at Canyon Village, a central part of the park that was temporarily shut down due to the incident. Dispatch reports indicate he held a female hostage at gunpoint and threated to suicide by cop.
According to a news release from the PCSO, more details will be released after an investigation in conjunction with the FBI and the National Parks Service.
A ranger was transported to a hospital for injuries.
