November Events at Santa Rosa County Libraries

Holiday Closures
Libraries will be closed on Monday, Nov. 12 in observance of Veterans Day.
 
In observance of Thanksgiving, libraries will close early at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 21 and will be closed Thursday – Saturday, Nov. 22 – 24. Libraries will resume normal business hours on Monday, Nov. 26.

Preschool Storytime
Storytime programs are presented for preschool children ages three through five and include stories, finger plays and action rhymes. Caregivers must remain in the library during storytime; however, they cannot accompany children into the programs. Programs start promptly at the assigned times; latecomers are not admitted.

First timer? Visit the library to meet the storytime presenter, pick up a welcome packet, explore the children’s area, and enjoy a tour of the library.
 
Storytime will be presented during the following times through Dec. 7:

  • 11 – 11:30 a.m. on Mondays at the Jay Library
  • 11 – 11:30 a.m. on Tuesdays at the Navarre & Milton Libraries
  • 11 – 11:30 a.m. on Fridays at the Gulf Breeze & Pace Libraries

Family Story Hour 
“Book a Trip” with Family Story Hour! Join us as we journey to all seven continents. There will be stories, activities, and more related to each destination on our trip. This month we will explore North America. Come each month to receive a stamp in your Family Story Hour passport.

Family Story Hour will be presented during the following times this month:

  • 3:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 2 at the Milton Library
  •  4 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 5 at the Navarre Library
  • 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 13 at the Jay Library
  • 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 14 at the Gulf Breeze Library
  • 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 20 at the Pace Library
Friends of the Navarre Library Fall Book Sale – 8484 James M. Harvell Rd..
Nov. 2, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Nov. 3, 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Join the Friends of the Navarre Library for their book sale in the Navarre Library meeting room. There is something for everyone, so check us out. This event is open to the public. Buy a bag for $5 and fill it with books. Support your local Friends group!

Refreshing Reads Book Club – Jay Library – 5259 Booker Ln.
Nov. 6, 3 p.m.
Enjoy an uplifting book club where one can talk about books in a spirit of fun and sharing. Refreshing Reads meets the first Tuesday of every month at the Jay Library. See a staff person to sign up. This month’s selection is “Deep Shadows” by Vannetta Chapman.
 
Veterans Day Tribute Movie – Navarre & Pace Libraries
Nov. 6, 3:30 p.m.
In honor of the 100th anniversary of Armistice Day (Veteran’s Day), join us for the movie “Dunkirk” (rated PG-13). Refreshments will be provided by the Friends of the Library groups.
 
Reading with Summit – Milton Library – 5541 Alabama St.
Nov. 6 & 20, 4 p.m.
Visit the library to read with Summit – the K-9 Literacy Dog! Space is limited; registration is required. Speak with a staff member to sign up.
 
Game Day – Milton Library – 5541 Alabama St.
Nov. 7, 3 p.m.

To celebrate International Games Week, the Milton Library will host a game night with activities including a kids-level escape room, giant Candyland, traditional board games, and a Dungeons & Dragons campaign. Participants are encouraged to bring their own games to play with friends. Refreshments will be provided by the Friends of the Milton Library.

The Illustriates Graphic Novel Book Club – Navarre Library – 8484 James M. Harvell Rd. 
Nov. 7, 4 p.m. 
Sixth through 12th graders can join fellow graphic novel enthusiasts to discuss the book of the month. Members can suggest reading ideas, interests, and discuss the world of the graphic novel. This month choose an Olympian from George O’Connor’s series that you don’t know much about or that isn’t your favorite, and read the graphic novel about them.Speak with a staff member to sign up.

Nov. 7, 4 p.m.  
One of the next best things to reading a good book is chatting about it. Join the conversation at the Pace Library on the first Wednesday of every month at 4 p.m. This month’s selection is “The Taster” by V.S. Alexander. Registration is required.
 
Friday Afternoon Movie – Milton Library – 5541 Alabama St.
Nov. 9, 2 p.m.

During International Games Week, we will watch the movie “Ready Player One” (rated PG-13) based on the novel by Ernest Cline. Refreshments will be provided by the Friends of the Milton Library.
 
Coffee Talk Book Club– Gulf Breeze Library – 1060 Shoreline Dr.
Nov. 13, 12 p.m.
The non-fiction book club meets on the second Tuesday of every other month for a brown bag lunch and book discussion. This month the book club is discussing “I’ll Be Gone in the Dark” by Michelle McNamara. Registration is required.
 
The Inklings– Milton Library – 5541 Alabama St.
Nov. 13, 5 p.m.
Sixth through 10th graders are invited to share their ideas about the book of the month. The Inklings Book Club meets the second Tuesday of the month at 5 p.m. at the Milton Library. This month’s selection is “The Valiant” by Lesley Livingston. Speak with a staff member to register.

Friends of the Gulf Breeze Library Board of Director’s Meeting – 1060 Shoreline Dr.

Third Thursdays with Your County Master Gardener – Navarre Library – 8484 James M. Harvell Rd.
Nov. 15, 11 a.m.

The County Master Gardeners will present a monthly series on a variety of interesting topics with solutions for your gardening life. This month’s topic, “Palms,” will be presented by Jim Danos.

Nov. 16, 1 p.m. 

The University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Services presents “Citrus for the Homeowner” by Mary Salinas, UF/IFAS Extension Santa Rosa County residential horticulture agent, at the Gulf Breeze Library.

Artists & Authors Event – Navarre Library – 8484 James M. Harvell Rd.
Nov. 16, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. & Nov. 17, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Local authors and artisans will be staged throughout the library, sharing their talents, signing books and discussing their works. Some of the participants will have items available for purchase. We are honored to feature these local talents.

Family Movie Mondays – Navarre Library – 8484 James M. Harvell Rd.
Nov. 19, 3 p.m.

Family movies will be shown the third Monday of every month at 3 p.m. Join us this month as we watch the adventures of Pocahontas and her pals (rated G). Refreshments will be provided by the Friends of the Navarre Library.

Nov. 20, 3 p.m.
Enjoy playing games? Bring games from home or play those provided by the library. All ages and game groups are welcome.
 
AniManga Club – Gulf Breeze Library – 1060 Shoreline Dr.
Nov. 20, 4 p.m.
Visit the Gulf Breeze Library on the third Tuesday of each month to learn and share graphic art skills in a fun environment. The AniManga Club is dedicated to the enjoyment and promotion of animation, cartooning, and related arts. The club is open to youth ages 11 – 17.

Robotics and Tech for Tweens & Teens – Gulf Breeze Library – 1060 Shoreline Dr.
Nov. 27, 4 p.m.
Tweens and teens ages 10-17 who are interested in robotics, coding, Arduino, virtual reality, and all things tech-related are invited to join us for a robotics and tech club. Meetings are held the last Tuesday of each month. Beginners through expert level welcome!
 
Graphic Novel Book Club – Milton Library – 5541 Alabama St.
Nov. 27, 5 p.m.

Join fellow graphic novel enthusiasts at the Milton Library on the fourth Wednesday each month to discuss the book of the month. Members can suggest reading ideas, interests, and discuss the world of the graphic novel. This month’s selection is “Spill Zone: The Broken Vow” by Scott Westerfeld. Visit the library to register.

Bibliobabblers Teen Book Club – Gulf Breeze Library – 1060 Shoreline Dr.
Nov. 27, 6 p.m.

Ninth through 12th graders who are 14-18 years old can discuss the read-of-the-month with friends at the Gulf Breeze Library. Bibliobabblers meets at 6 p.m. on the last Tuesday of every month. This month’s book is “Unison Spark” by Andy Marino.
