The Navarre Area Board of Realtors (NABOR) recently selected a new president who is taking a set of her own ideas to strengthen the organization within the community.
Amity Nowling was nominated by former NABOR president Bob Hartley to serve as the president for the organization this year. NABOR’s board of directors approved the nomination and she will serve in her new position for exactly one year.
Nowling’s start with NABOR started much like her career in Real Estate. Her interest in Real Estate came when she moved to Navarre in 2002.
“We built a house in Navarre, and I loved the process. You start from the lot and work your way up,” Nowling said.
And just like the construction process, Nowling worked her way up in the non-profit organization serving on nearly every committee NABOR had to offer during her time with them.
So it was no surprise when she was nominated by outgoing president Hartley to serve as the new president for the organization, and later approved by her peers on the board of directors.
“It was a position I wanted to take the first time around several years back, but I had some personal issues hit me family-wise and I had to take a step back,” Nowling said. “And when I was presented with the opportunity again, I took it. This was an opportunity that I’ve been wanting to do for several years.”
So when Nowling was selected by the board to come on as president, she already had a laundry list of items she wanted to tackle in her position, with most of her focus on political issues and the community.
“We have found on the state level that there has been a cry for proficiency in our craft. To promote us, protect us and protect the public. My goal is to start an education task force this year. And our goal is to find different classes and find out what our members need and want to make us more proficient,” Nowling said. “It will help us protect our principle– which is the public– and that’s what’s important. I think sometimes we get a bad rep and my goal is to try to give our Realtors all the tools they need to help make them as successful as possible.”
Nowling also plans to jump start a young professionals group.
And Nowling’s vision as president falls in line with NABOR’s mission, which is: To deliver every reasonable service, product and amenity which will enhance and/or promote real estate careers to their Realty members. And also to be proactive in the community and to educate those interested in the local Real Estate market.
It was no surprise to see the president, who works at Crystal Shores Realty, jumping into her new position at the start of the new year.
“As president I have to maintain everything and make sure everything is running smoothly at the office,” she said. “I’m the support system for our director and our membership. Collectively I am someone who can take their issues or questions to the board.”
So even as she types away at her desk at Crystal Shores Realty, Nowling is always thinking of ways to enhance NABOR.
“There are so many things I want to get accomplished,” Nowling said. “This is something I’ve been waiting to do for a long time.”
