Long-time locals with deep roots will gather on November 1 at Holley Assembly’s dome to celebrate their rich heritage. The potluck luncheon will start at 11 a.m. Those whose families settled the area in the 1800s are cordially invited to attend.
One of the families attending event will be descendants of the Broxson family, who moved from Holmes County to East Bay during the Civil War. Descendants of the family own a portion of the land near where a mill once stood before the family relocated to what is now Eglin Air Force Base property. The family lived and worked on Boiling Creek before they were forced to leave the land.
Later generations of the family served in public office, including former Florida Senator Doug Broxson and his late brother, John, who served as Sheriff and later as a state legislator and a county commissioner. Their father, Bart, was Sheriff when he was killed in the line of duty, and their mom, Annie, was interim Sheriff until John received the appointment to the office.

William Milton Broxson (walking) and other family members are depicted leading their cattle herd north over the old Yellow River Bridge. His family is also pictured above.
Additionally, William Broxson served on the school board and county commission.
Descendants of early pioneers of the area are encouraged to attend the potluck celebration.
