Hayden Matthew Wallace, 19, and Noah Thomas Young, both of Pensacola, were booked into Santa Rosa County Jail around 11 p.m., on October 21 after being clocked at 100 mph while racing on U.S. 98.

“The vehicles were racing in the National Seashore and clocked at 100 mph in a 45-mph zone,” per Gulf Breeze Police Department Chief Rick Hawthorne.

Around 9:16 p.m., a GBPD officer was traveling eastbound on Gulf Breeze Parkway in a marked patrol cruiser and clocked the vehicles racing westbound at 100 mph, per the arrest report. The officer made a U-turn and conducted a traffic stop.

Police say Wallace was driving a grey 2015 Toyota Camry and Young was driving a red 2012 four-door Nissan Altima.

During inventory of the vehicles, which were towed, a GBPD officer located a red pipe used for marijuana consumption within the center console of the Altima, and it was seized for destruction. Additionally, a black bag reportedly belonging to a passenger was located within the Camry, containing a pen used for marijuana consumption, which was seized for destruction. A black Glock pistol was also located within the bag. The passenger was detained during the investigation but subsequently released without further incident.

Each suspect was charged with a second-degree misdemeanor charge of Dangerous Excessive Speeding in Excess of the Speed Limit by 50 mph and a first-degree misdemeanor charge of driving a motor vehicle – racing on a highway.

They were both issued a $600 bond and released the next day.
