Tony Hughes to Moderate July 12 Chamber Debate at Hidden Creek

Are you ready to find out more about county and state candidates? Would you like to hear a debate about incorporation? Well, mark your calendars for the July 12 Greater Navarre Beach Area Chamber of Commerce’s 2022 Debate at The Club at Hidden Creek in Navarre.

The political debate will feature local and state candidates, plus a representative from Navarre Area United will face off in an anti/pro-incorporation debate amongst those in support of and opposition to the effort.

The debate will be moderated by Tony Hughes, who previously served as Chairman of the Chamber’s Military Affairs Council.

Hughes has received multiple awards for his work supporting local military efforts, including winning the General Lewis H. Brereton Award in 2018 from the Air Force Association of Florida, which recognized him for being the Florida civilian who had provided the “most significant contribution to airpower.”

Chamber CEO Tracy Bragg is excited about hosting another debate, following the success of the chamber’s inaugural debate in 2020.

“We work hard to educate the community,” said Bragg, who said this will be the chamber’s third “Washington-style” political debate, focusing on Santa Rosa County Commissioner District 2 and District 4 races as well as state legislature and Congressional races.

“Candidates will be asked a panel of questions that pertain to the south end of the county and ones for the county as a whole,” Bragg said. “We will also have State and Congressional panels with the same outline.”

According to Bragg, the chamber stream the event on YouTube and Facebook with a live audience.

So far, the following media outlets plan to cover the debate:

  • Navarre Newspaper
  • Navarre Press
  • South Santa Rosa News
  • Studio 850

Tickets will go on sale in June for those attending in person.

“We are asking the community to provide questions they want answered by the candidates,” added Bragg. Debate questions can be submitted via ceo@greaternavarrechamber.com by July 1, 2022.

“We look forward to a very informative debate to inform our community before they go to the polls to vote,” Bragg said, noting that due to the number of candidates in local races the chamber is planning to host a separate debate for school board candidates.

The 2022 Primary Election is scheduled for Tuesday, August 23.
