VFW hosting essay contest

The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) is now accepting entries for its 2016-17 youth scholarship competition.
This is an opportunity for local students to win awards as well as on the state and national levels.
VFW’s Voice of Democracy has been the VFW’s premier scholarship program since 1947. This years’ theme for the scholarship program is, “My Responsibility to America”. The essay contest is open to students in grades 9-12.
The competition is dedicated to encouraging a better understanding and appreciation for our great country and fostering patriotism among our nation’s youth.
Students are asked to submit an audio and written essay on how American history and democratic ideals and principles apply to their lives.
Student participants are asked to submit their entry along with completed entry form to their participating VFW Post, Spectre Post 11367, 3050 Hwy. 98 West, Mary Esther.
The deadline for student entries is November 1. Official entry forms are available at the VFW Spectre Post or can be found on line at www.vfw.org
