David Godwin, a long-time math teacher at Pace High School and current President of Santa Rosa Professional Educators, prefiled this afternoon in the Santa Rosa County Superintendent of Schools race.
“David is an experienced educator who is very honest. He will make sure educators and our students are treated well,” said Rhonda Chavers, former SRPE president.
Unlike school board races, the Superintendent’s race is partisan. Therefore, Godwin, a registered Republican, will face incumbent Superintendent Karen Barber and newcomer Brenda Stephens, both Republicans, in the August 20 primary if they each qualify through signed petitions or by paying a qualifying fee.
Michael Maradik, a write-in candidate and registered Democrat, who happens to be Stephens’ neighbor, has also prefiled for the race, closing the primary to Republicans only.
